The Popes high kicking lead singer and songwriter Paul Mad Dog McGuinness was run down by a taxi last Thursday 21st Nov in London, and has been severely injured with compound leg fractures and head trauma. He is still unconscious in The Royal London Hospital, Whitechapel. The tattooed singer stepped into the limelight when he took over from Shane McGowan on occassions that Shane had to leave the stage, the first of which being on The David Letterman Show, and the next at Madison Square Gardens. Before The Pogues Paul led Irish punk rockers DC Nein.
The band are deeply concerned and will keep fans updated via the website www.thepopesofficialsite.com. There will be a Christmas benefit gig for Paul at O’Neills in Muswell Hill by The Popes and special guests on Friday 20th December.
